New cameras to fight fly-tipping

Six new cctv cameras are joining the fight against fly-tipping in the borough as the council’s project to find and fine fly-tippers continues. 

The six new cameras join the three which are already in place across town and, like those, are mobile units which can be transferred to hotspots as needed. 

Since the campaign began a year ago, footage from the cameras has proven invaluable in tracking down fly-tippers – from residents who think a litter bin or bin area is the place for their old mattress or party leftovers to organised companies taking money from unsuspecting customers and then systematically dumping in the town. 

Councillor Zafar Satti, lead member for public protection, said: “Unfortunately there is still a minority of people who continue to dump their rubbish and expect their neighbours to foot the bill for the clean-up through their council tax. 

“We do not find this acceptable. The tip in Chalvey is free for nearly all domestic waste and there are multiple licenced waste carriers in the town who will properly remove rubbish for a fee. 

“There is no excuse for dumping your rubbish – not that it is by a bin, not that there was too much to get in your normal household bins, not that you don’t have access to a car.

“Fly-tipping is wrong and we will continue to use all means to find and fine those who make our town a mess.”
